My internship contains two aspects. One is working as an ACLC student representative, and another one is shadowing the director of policy and communications at Atlantic Canada Opportunity Agency PEI.
In my first session of job shadowing, I noticed that each staff has a small colourful stacked block on their table. The director later explained to me that each colour of the four blocks represents a personal style, and the blocks are arranged from the least to the most dominant style, from the bottom to the top.
Each person's results are from an explicit report of a personality test from the Insight Discovery, which is shared among the team. I am amazed that first, the report provides not only typical information on personal styles and key strengths and weaknesses but also practical suggestions, such as barriers to effective communication and the ideal environment, strategies for managing and motivating each person. After reading the reports, team members would understand each other more and, especially, know how to communicate with one another effectively.
Second, the team not only shared the report but also had a related fun team building activity. Since it is hard for everyone to remember others' style, having blocks on the table can be a useful visual reminder that we are all different and that we need to communicate according to the others' needs.
